Yasmin Evans



Host of BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Weekdays 1-4pm show, Stockport born Yasmin Evans began her radio career at the age of just 15 presenting on one of Manchester’s most prominent community stations. It was then that she began collecting vinyls and originals, developing a taste for eclectic urban music influenced by old school RNB, Hip Hop, House and Reggae.

Yasmin studied Radio BA (Hons) at the University of Salford where she was approached by the BBC to take part in their piloting scheme. In September 2012 she was offered the 1Xtra Weekend Breakfast show and after just 9 months in that slot she became the co-host of the 1Xtra Weekday Breakfast Show which she presented for 3 years. 2016 saw Yasmin given her own afternoon 1-4pm solo show on BBC 1Xtra every weekday which she continues to host.

In Summer 2017 it was announced that live Saturday morning kids TV would be making an anticipated return and Yasmin was named as the co-host of Saturday Mash Up! alongside Jonny Nelson. After a successful three month run the show was recommissioned and ran for an extended series 2018-2019. 2018 saw Yasmin present the BRITS 2018 first International Live Stream as well as give her first TedX Talk at the University Manchester. Yasmin hosted the live Red Carpet for The Brits 2019 and is set to return for 2020.

During her time at the BBC Yasmin has fronted a range of BBC events including 1Xtra’s Live’s coverage on the BBC Red Button and online content as well as presenting Radio 1’s Big Weekend Backstage. She has worked on Sport Relief shows and has even taken part in Celebrity Mastermind.

She has hosted VEVO UK online programming and is the face of their Music Videos In Real Life, VVV & Ones To Watch. She has hosted the GRM Daily Rated Awards which were streamed live across YouTube.

In 2015, Yasmin teamed up with Comic Relief travelling to Uganda with Operation Health to bring aid and awareness by building a Health Center alongside Greg James and Lenny Henry and raising 1 Million for Comic Relief. As an advocate in improving the lives and education of young people, Yasmin has played an influential role in the BBC’s Apprenticeship scheme & The BBC Outreach team since 2012; talking nationwide to young individuals about her career journey. She also hosted WE DAY UK at Wembley Arena since 2015, a live event showcasing the importance of young individuals around the World sponsored by Richard Branson and Virgin Atlantic. Yasmin supports a number of other charities including The Duke of Edinburgh Award, Samaritans, NSPCC and Sports Relief.

Outside of her broadcast commitments and inspired by her Grandmothers open kitchen policy, when she is not busy working Yasmin can be found in the kitchen experimenting, researching and documenting new recipes and ingredients.
