Owen Thomas



Owen Thomas is known to millions of people around the world as an anchor on Bloomberg and presenter for BBC World News. He also fronts business shows on the channel.Previously, Owen was a London-based anchor on CNN International.

Combining calm professionalism with great warmth, Owen is just as much at home covering breaking news events in the studio, anchoring live on-location, hosting conferences for blue-chip companies or chairing debates with business or political leaders.

Owen Thomas has an enviable background in broadcasting. Before BBC World News and CNN he was a newscaster at ITN, anchoring the ITV News Channel and the ITV Morning News. He was well known in the capital for many years as a presenter of London Tonight. In the 1990s, he helped wake up the nation as a newsreader on Radio One's Newsbeat. 
In demand as a conference host and facilitator, Owen recently chaired a panel of top music industry experts for the prestigious MUSExpo Europe. He has also hosted conferences for Barclays Bank and presented awards in a nationwide road-show for a leading business-orientated charity.

Owen has covered some of the biggest news stories of the past two decades. His first day at BBC World News coincided with the deadly bomb blast outside the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad where he single-handedly anchored four and a half hours of live, continuous coverage. He's chaired studio debates and conducted interviews with business leaders and world renowned economists on the Global Financial Crisis. He's also talked to Hollywood's finest, from Joan Collins to Susan Sarandon.

Owen also donates his time to the Red Cross and last year spent a week in Zambia helping with water projects and is looking forward to doing something similar this year.

Owen graduated in French from Aston University in Birmingham and spent two years living in Paris and working for Radio France. He lives in north London.
