Shortlist

Dave Bassett is one of football's most colourful characters.  A former player, he has made his name as a manager.  He has had spells in charge at Wimbledon, Watford, Sheffield United, Crystal Palace and at Nottingham Forest where he was appointed General Manager in March 1997.

Dave made his name originally taking Wimbledon from non-league football to Premiership status, playing the long ball game.  His powers of motivation are legendary and he has often spoken at management functions on team building.

He was head hunted to Watford by Elton John, who simply turned up at his house!  His success at Sheffield United was achieved without access to big money buys.  Although only at Crystal Palace for a relatively short period he nearly achieved promotion at the first attempt and it was no real surprise to see him emerge at Nottingham Forest where his powers to lift teams in the short term was invaluable.

After leaving Nottingham Forest Dave went on to Manager Barnsley and was Director of Football at Leicester City.
